My Story

My name is Kristel Kennedy, and I have been a Public School teacher for over 20 years. I have taught primarily English and Public Speaking, and I have worked with ALL TYPES of students. I generally find that a good sense of humor and a positive attitude go a long way towards making an overwhelming process more manageable. As I have been teaching, I have looked for more ways to help high schoolers express themselves and develop their ideas and goals in their own ways. I am a creative brainstormer and writer; I have also taught interview skills and helped loads of students develop their own public persona.

Besides my devotion to theatre, strategy board games, my beagle, and traveling, I have a passion for working with young people and walking them through life choices and goals, figuring out what they want for their futures, and then helping them take the steps to make it happen. I enjoy discussing possibilities. I enjoy talking with young people about how the world works. And helping students who are scattered and seem to have no direction find those places that really click is extremely satisfying.

As someone who has worked with different types of students for the last two decades, I am able to patiently walk with your emerging young adult as they navigate all the college choices ahead - size, location, majors, minors, social life, academic feel, acceptance rate, retention rate, tolerance, traditions, those intangible unique nuggets, and the overall vibe. I enjoy visiting colleges and then reporting back with research and impressions. I often say junior and senior years of high school seem to be the most stressful - for both students and parents. But we got this! â€‹
